Church Wide Study Begins September 27, 2009

Jesus once said, "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 6.36). The apostle Paul wrote, "Our old self was crucified with Christ so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin" (Romans 6.6).

It seems that at the heart of the gospel is the hope of redemption, the hope of being released from the bondgage of sin and despair.

But freedom is a slippery reality. Right after Paul celebrates the freedom in Christ, he warns the believers in Rome, "Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master because you are not under law, but under grace" (Romans 6.13-14)

For so many, while we might be under grace, we still understand the bondage of sin. We are in bondage to sinful behaviors and habits. We are in bondage to the hurts of our past. We are in bondage to the guilty feelings of the people we have hurt and the things we have done. And while the promise of freedom rings through the air, so many followers of Christ still have yet to find it in their private struggles.

And this is the reason behind the upcoming, church wide campaign called Life's Healing Choices. Because so many of God's people need to find freedom from hurts, habits, and hang-ups, I am inviting the body of Christ to come together to study about the freedom that is promised in Christ and how to make that freedom a reality.
